MCINTYRE HOUSE

Located near San Francisco, this distinguished, previously acclaimed mid-century home-- the product of noted Bay Area architect Joseph Esherick and landscape architect Lawrence Halprin—was acquired by our client with the goal of making it relevant for a new family in the 21st century. Its modern, muscular architecture concealed a floor plan and decoration that was oddly ill-suited for a contemporary lifestyle, presenting a dynamic design challenge: reconfigure the layout and edit the interiors while honoring the large-scale architectural elements that made the house significant. The landscape and pool were restructured to better connect with the home’s interiors, which included new furnishings and finishes comfortable with their heritage, yet clearly contemporary.
