“The house is only one room deep, a design decision that fills the interior spaces with natural light and provides contrasting glimpses of sky, craggy mountains, and the endless green of the valley floor.”

SODA CANYON ROAD
Napa Valley, CA

Located on volcanic terrain, near Stag’s Leap overlooking Napa Valley, this house takes its inspiration from a merger of Mediterranean villas and contemporary elements to transcend time and place. Classical proportions and details are abstracted and given a more modern interpretation to accommodate an eclectic array of antique and contemporary furnishings and art. The deceptively simple floor plan, essentially a single room deep, ensures easy access to nature and balanced daylight. And rather than placing the home directly on the ridge line, it’s deliberately held back from the edge to add drama, provide foreground, and to frame and define the dramatic views.
